Uh, Number [2] is incorrect.

It was a part of McCarthyism, not a re-action to it.


The re-action to McCarthyism actually started with, primarily three people.

1. Senator Margaret Chase Smith of Maine

2 & 3. Edward R Murrow and Fred Friendly of the "See It Now" television
program (succeeding "Hear It Now" on radio) on the so-called "Army v
McCarthy" hearings.

[For those not familiar with Edward R Murrow, many people consider him the
finest broadcast journalist in history. Some, however, consider him the
finest journalist - no matter what media - who has ever lived.
