I'm getting ready to start filling out the first FAFSA I've ever done. Any
advice?

My high school senior is probably in the top 25% of his class, but not top
10%. Also, there's a chance he could get some athletic scholarship money.

We're planning to fill out the FAFSA form online, and submit after January
1. We'll need to do an estimate of our 1040 info, because I usually don't
get my W2 until February. I doubt we'll be eligible for much grant money,
but I understand that having the FAFSA completed is an enabler to being
eligible for other stuff.

Thanks.

Without knowing anything more about your particulat situation or the
schools involved - be sure to get it done by the earliest deadline of
all your schools, and determine if they require any other aid
applications such as the CSS/Profile or forms of their own.
