Post subject: Financial Aid in Florida
Archived from groups: soc>college>financial-aid (more info?)

Hi:

I have kind of have some “odd-ball” questions about getting financial
aid or assistance for further education. Currently I reside in the
Saint Petersburg area, Pinellas County, Florida. Currently I suffer
from OCD as was diagnosed after being baker acted in 2007. I also
suffer from panic attacks and have inflicted self harm in the past…and
was wondering what the chances were that I could perhaps get state
funding to further my education, based on these mental complexes,
disturbances, etc. Let me explain further…I have been enrolled in St.
Petersburg College and have been working toward a degree in Microsoft
Office Specialist. Years ago in my late teen-hood I had been referred
to a state funded education place called Abilities. There I had
completed a Computer Aided Design class…and I am trying to figure out
if there might be a way to get state funding again. Would I have to
first get paperwork from where I got baker acted? Should I go for
another evaluation…and perhaps get on medication? Would I only
qualify for assistance if I’m on disability, food stamps, etc? I have
looked into scholarships but have had a hard time finding one that
fits my situation, for example most of the minorities and situations
they mostly look for do not meet the description of my situation.
Right now I can’t further my education for financial reasons but would
like to. Although I’m a pretty disturbed individual I have a fairly
high I.Q. and would not want that go to waste.

Thanks in advanced for any helpful and response/s.
