Post subject: Help about Loans
Archived from groups: soc>college>financial-aid (more info?)

I'm a undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh. I got a lot of
financial aid to pay off some of school but the left over money I
could not cover because I can't get my hands on a loan. I have all
the loans FAFSA gives out and Pell Grant, Stafford Loans, etc, all
those. I tried to get a Private loan from a bank or something to pay
off the rest of my tuition amount. I can't get a loan from say,
SallieMae because I don't have a cosigner and I don't have a credit
history to get a loan.

If anyone can help me figure out how to pay for school that would be
great. If I don't figure out how I'm goign to pay for college then I
have to go back home, where is cheaper and goto a community college
and then back to Pitt (maybe). I really want to stay in my school
because I love here. I'm struggling to get eligibility for a loan. I
need help.

This is not a fun situation now is it. Obviously the situation varies from person to person (read: situation to situation) so there's no "right answer" however there are some private options you might want to look into.

There are a couple sites you might want to take a peek at. http://www.nextstudent.com/ (Next Student student loans) has some info on private student loans that may be of some help. http://www.finaid.org/ (FinAid! Financial Aid) has a lot of links to scholarship and loan info. I'm sure there are others, if you find them let me know. Smile

Some where http://www.loansuggest.com (Student Loan Company), Student Loan Express, and its corporate parent, CIT Group, became the sixth lender to settle with the attorney general in his nationwide investigation. CIT agreed to observe a code of conduct and to pay $3-million, the largest amount a lender has agreed upon to date, into a fund to educate students about financial aid.

Your best option since you can't get any more loans is to apply for grants and scholarships. These are free sources of money that you don't have to pay back.

You can read about scholarships here:
http://www.studentfinancedomain.com/financial_aid/college_scholarship.aspx

And here are some good sites for grants and scholarships:

Good luck!

Hi jasminjes! You are in a tough situation right now. I can’t help you how to pay your school but I can give you advice so that you can still pursue your college education. Since you’re struggling to get some loans, I agree to recentgradtrish, how about get some college scholarship grants from your school. I think for now that’s the best option you’ve got unless you have still your best way for it.

Here is a site that will guide you concerning college scholarship grants.
