Kate Herzog Writing Scholarship

KATE HERZOG 2005 WRITING AWARD
Seeks Student Writers

Willamette Writers and Barnes and Noble announce the 2005 Kate Herzog

Writing Award to recognize exceptional student writing. Entries will
be accepted in two categories: high school seniors and college
freshman or sophomores. Award winners will receive a full scholarship

to the Willamette Writers Conference in Portland, Oregon, August
5-7th, including a consultation with an agent, editor or film
producer, and a banquet dinner, and up to $500 in scholarship money.

To apply for the Kate Herzog Writing Award, please forward:

Original, unpublished writing sample of less than 1,000 words, typed,

double-spaced. The sample should be titled, but should not include any

information about the author. Writing published in school publications

is eligible.

A cover letter with contact information that includes the title of the

writing sample, and a paragraph that includes information about the
student's goals as a writer.

Letter of recommendation from an instructor in the current academic
year.

These items should be submitted no later than Sunday, February 28th,
2005. Award winners will be notified by May 15, 2005. Winners
will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.
