Does anybody out there have any experience with getting into law school.
My daughter is looking to apply - Univ of Texas, Baylor, Univ of Houston or
SMU.
Looking for any tips, pointers, paying for it, scholarships, etc etc.
Anything would be usefull.

She graduated Southwestern (Georgetown, Tx) with a degree in French and a
minor in Dance with a 3.8 GPA.

Taught a year at a local High School (French, Dance and Drill Team Director)
and is heavy into drama and dance (has acted professsionally).

Currently she is a legal secretary at a law firm in Austin, Tx and just loves
the work. Waiting on results of LSAT due in Jan. Made a 170/180 on a
practice test but said actual test was much much harder.

I'm not an expert into US law schools, but shouldn't she go for better
schools, given her GPA and LSAT practice test result?

As an example, most students entering Baylor's law school class are
more like 3.2-3.7 and 155-160, respectively (see
http://law.baylor.edu/new_prosp_students/percentiles.htm).

Probably yes, but she wants to stay close to this area. She loves the Austin
area and UT (her first choice) is considered in the top 10 AND is one of the
cheapest for in-state students. They had 6,000 applicants for 400 slots last
or the year before.

In addition, she HOPES she can keep her current job at the law firm and work
part time.

Baylor is close enough so she could live at home and commute but (at present)
she had no desire to move back home.
