Hi,
My name is Zen and this is my first time posting here.
I'm currently a second year law student at Columbia University and my
friends and I have just started this non-profit tutoring service in NYC
(currently operating in Manhattan). It's called Summa Cum Laude Tutors
Corporation and our website is at
www.scltutors.com .
Our concept is pretty simple. We recruit volunteer tutors from top
graduate schools like Columbia Law and Columbia Med. We specialize in
sciences and engineering subjects. We also do college admission
counseling; after all, all of our tutors went to the top undergraduates
and are now in the top graduate programs. We then donate _all_ of our
profits to various charities and research centers. Also, a percentage
of our money go to the schools of our clients. See
www.scltutors.com
for a list of our donees.
As I've mentioned earlier, we have just started operation. We have a
number of tutors recruited; no problems there. But we are having
trouble reaching our consumers. Our current strategy is to contact
headmasters and college guidance counselors of various high schools in
Manhattan. We are offering all new clients a promotional rate of ten
dollars for two hours; the ten dollars are to cover transportation
costs for our volunteers. The ones we actually were able to talk to
were very receptive to our organization. The problem, though, is that
all administrators and counselors are very busy and thus unable to help
us really reach our ultimate clients-- the students and their parents.
I'm wondering if you have any suggestions/tips/advice for us. Given
everyone-here's experience and interest in education, what can we do to
reach our students? I mean, I believe our concept is great-- we give
premium tutoring service to students, present an opportunity for busy
grad school students to donate their time, and benefit various
community and social organizations through donations. We just need to
get started somehow!
For more information regarding our organization, please check out
www.scltutors.com . Feel free to email me at zzz2105 AT columbia DOT
EDU if you have any questions or comments.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Zen Zhang
