I'm a senior in high school from Illinois. My top Illinois school is
the U of I, and SIU as a backup. I also applied for an NROTC
scholarship, which I predict a 75% chance that I will recieve. If I
get this scholarship it will let me go out of state, but if I don't I
can only afford in state tuition.
I'm applying to UW Madison's engineering school, but I'm not sure if I
should tell them that I'm applying for an NROTC scholarship. They
might realize that if I don't get the scholarship, I won't go to their
school.
The essay I started writing is about how I recently became interested
in civil engineering, the naval officer who interviewed me told me
that there's a great need for civil engineers, so I want to mention
this in my essay. My essay, in case your wondering, is going to be
about how I'm indecesive at times, and how this is actually good
because I carefully consider my options before dedicating myself to
something. I want to use this fact as a reason for my condidence in my
chosen career.
My scores and grades are only average, I got a 600 and a 28 in math,
and a 630 and 28 in english. In fact, I got 28s on all my ACT scores.
I've taken hard classes though, which is evident in my GPA, a 3.1. The
first two years of high school I didn't study hard, but I managed to
keep a B average.
Knowing all this, would it be wise to state that I'm applying for the
NROTC scholarship, and are they likely to connect this with lower
chances of me accepting a letter of acceptance?
Thank you,
Keith D
