Archived from groups: soc>college>financial-aid (more info?)

I have been receiving consolidation advertisments, but when I called
the number thay said I or any other current student do not qualify.
Why are they sending these out then? Why is it that we can not
consolidate these loans till we graduate. It looks terrible on our
credit reports havings so many loans open.

The lenders have incorrect information leading them to think you have
already finished college. That commonly happens when a student drops out
for awhile, transfers, or is still in college more than 4 years after
taking out the first loan.

As for your credit record, a bunch of loans identified as student loans,
or just one large one from consolidation, should make no difference on
your credit reports unless you are in default.
