TO ALL ITALIAN AMERICANS
I have recently had the unfortunate experience of going through the
application process for a scholarship through the NIAF, or national
Italian American foundation. Needless to say I did not get it as a 3.8
GPA is below average and I did not perform any community service or
extracurricular activities (because I have to work and support my
family).
After a brief correspondence with them, I have realized that their
requirements to be awarded the scholarship do not fit an average
American student who has to spend more time working than studying, or
participating in community service or extracurricular activities.
So my advice is unless you have at least a 4.0 GPA (yes I think they
expect more than a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale) and hundreds of hours of
community service or extracurricular activities and a teacher who can
recommend you over Jesus Christ, then do not support the NIAF or any
of its programs.
P L E A S E BOYCOTT THE NIAF!!!
Thank you.
