We received a letter from a major university that we did not apply to. It
offered a full, four-year scholarship, including books, materials, and some
housing money. We of course sent in an app immediately. I called the
scholarship office to inquire as to the firmness of the offer. The
scholarship office did not send the letter; it was the office of enrollment
services. So, I read the letter to them and they said it was a firm offer.
I still can't help but wonder whether this truly is a done deal. The letter
stated that all that was needed was to verify his self-reported SAT scores,
GPA and class rank. We have to respond before the funds are depleted, but
that "based upon last year's criteria" he qualifies for an academic honors
scholarship. Is this double talk or legalese?
